CLI Reference

skillos-cli

The SkillOS command-line interface. Install globally with npm install -g skillos-cli or run one-off with npx -y skillos-cli.

The default skillos serve mode is stdio. Supplying --port selects the checkout-only HTTP/SSE server; combining it with --stdio is an error. Supply API keys through SKILLOS_API_KEY instead of saving them in shell history.

skillos init

Usage: skillos init

Runs the interactive first-time setup wizard for supported AI clients and optional local tools.

$ skillos init
  # Follow the prompts to configure this machine's AI client and optional local tools.

skillos help

Usage: skillos help [command]

Prints the CLI command guide or examples for a named command. Use --help for Commander-generated option details.

$ skillos help connectors
  # Prints the connector command examples supported by this CLI release.

skillos install

Usage: skillos install [--client <name>] [--claude] [--cursor] [--vscode] [--windsurf] [--all] [--with-connectors] [--remote <url>] [--dry-run] [--force]

Aliases: skillos connect

Auto-detects supported AI clients (Claude Desktop, Antigravity/Gemini CLI, Cursor, Windsurf, Zed, Continue, Cline, Warp, Amp, Goose) on the current machine and writes the MCP server config to each client's config file. Existing files receive timestamped backups; malformed or incompatible JSON is left unchanged.

Flags

-c, --client <name>Target a specific client: claude | antigravity | cursor | cursor-global | vscode | windsurf | zed | continue | cline | warp | amp | goose
--claudeConfigure Claude Desktop
--cursorConfigure Cursor IDE
--vscodeConfigure VS Code, Cline, or Roo
--windsurfConfigure Windsurf
-a, --allInstall to all supported and detected clients simultaneously
--with-connectorsAlso configure standard tool connectors (GitHub, Postgres, Filesystem, Memory)
-r, --remote <url>Use the specified remote MCP HTTP/SSE endpoint
--dry-runPreview target paths and entries without creating files, directories, or backups
-f, --forceOverwrite existing SkillOS configuration without prompting
$ skillos install --dry-run
  # Lists only client config paths detected on this machine.
  # A dry run does not create or modify files.

skillos list

Usage: skillos list [--tier <0-4>] [--vertical <name>] [--json] [--remote <url>]

Fetches the live registry from founderskillos.xyz/api/skills and prints all available skills.

Flags

-t, --tier <n>Filter by SDS tier (0–4)
-v, --vertical <name>Filter by vertical (e.g. software, healthcare, fintech)
--jsonOutput as newline-delimited JSON for scripting
-r, --remote <url>Override the registry API endpoint
$ skillos list --tier 2
  # Prints the Tier 2 skills currently returned by the live registry.
  # Results depend on the catalog and can change over time.

skillos inspect

Usage: skillos inspect <slug> [--json] [--remote <url>]

Fetches the full SDS manifest for a skill by slug. Displays tier, vertical, tools, prompt template, and all 13 SDS component statuses.

Flags

--jsonOutput the manifest as JSON
-r, --remote <url>Override the registry API endpoint
$ skillos inspect <skill-slug>
  # Prints the manifest and component status returned by the registry.
  # Use a slug shown by skillos list; unavailable slugs return an error.

skillos validate

Usage: skillos validate <path>

Checks YAML or Markdown syntax, required metadata, each of the 13 canonical SDS components, declared-tool tier rules, and configured risk signatures. This static validation does not run model-behavior tests, prove safety, or approve publication.

Flags

-s, --strictFail on warnings in addition to errors
--jsonOutput results as JSON
$ skillos validate my-skill.sds.yml
  # Results are computed from this file and vary by its contents.
  # Add --json to emit a machine-readable validation report.

skillos validate-deployment

Usage: skillos validate-deployment <path> [--json]

Validates a local DCS v1 JSON or YAML document. Validation does not issue a certificate or prove that a deployment is safe or operating as declared.

Flags

--jsonOutput a machine-readable validation report
$ skillos validate-deployment deployment.json
  # Validates the supplied local document and reports errors and warnings.

skillos activate

Usage: skillos activate <skill-name> [--local] [--transport <mode>] [--api-key <key>] [--json] [--remote <url>]

Fetches and prints a skill's SDS prompt through the configured MCP client. Local mode uses stdio; remote entitlement checks run only when PLATFORM_API_URL is configured.

Flags

--localUse the local stdio MCP runtime
--transport <mode>Select auto, stdio, SSE, or HTTP transport
--api-key <key>Use a bearer API key; SKILLOS_API_KEY is the environment alternative
--jsonOutput the activation result as JSON
--remote <url>Override the registry or platform endpoint
$ skillos activate <skill-name>
  # Retrieves the selected skill through MCP; availability and entitlement checks apply.

skillos serve

Usage: skillos serve [--stdio | --port <1-65535>]

Starts the local MCP runtime using stdio by default. HTTP mode with --port requires the runtime source or built HTTP server from a SkillOS repository checkout; the published CLI package does not include that server.

Flags

--stdioExplicitly select stdio. This is also the default when --port is omitted; it cannot be combined with --port.
-p, --port <number>Run the checkout's HTTP/SSE runtime on this port (1–65535); unavailable in the published CLI package.
$ skillos serve
  # Starts the local stdio runtime. Tool availability depends on its configuration.

skillos doctor

Usage: skillos doctor

Aliases: skillos test

Lists detected supported AI-client installations and checks the local stdio MCP handshake. It does not inspect the remote platform or report tool response times.

$ skillos doctor
  # Reports detected client config paths and the local stdio handshake result.
  # A failed handshake exits with a nonzero status.

skillos connectors

Usage: skillos connectors <list|connect|disconnect|test> [slug]

Reads the live connector catalog. `connect` prints the signed-in dashboard setup link; it does not launch OAuth or save credentials. `test` and `disconnect` call owner-scoped platform APIs using SKILLOS_API_KEY.

Flags

listShow current catalog entries; without an API key, account connection state is unknown
connect <slug>Print the dashboard setup URL; sign in there to save a credential
disconnect <slug>Revoke access; the encrypted credential record remains in account history
test <slug>Request a provider check or format-only validation; output states which ran
$ skillos connectors list
  # Prints entries from the current platform catalog.
  # Account state is unknown unless SKILLOS_API_KEY is set.

$ skillos connectors connect <slug>
  # Prints a dashboard URL. Complete credential setup in the signed-in web app.

skillos --help

Usage: skillos --help | skillos <command> --help

Prints the global command list or command-specific options. `skillos help [command]` also prints examples.

Flags

-h, --helpDisplay the command list or command-specific options
$ skillos --help
  # Lists commands and global options. Run `skillos serve --help` for transport-specific options.

skillos --version

Usage: skillos --version

Prints the installed CLI version.

Flags

-V, --versionPrint the installed CLI version
$ skillos --version
  # Prints the version bundled in the installed CLI package.

Exit behavior

0Command completed successfully, or help/version was displayed.
1A command, validation, provider, transport, or startup operation failed.
serve child statusAfter startup, skillos serve propagates the runtime's exit code; a signal or missing code becomes 1.
